Ok this is an update with information regarding GoS’ downtime. If you have read the edit in jen’s DW then you will have already seen this, but if you are unaware why GoS is down then please read any of these previous entries on the matter.
We have some good news! As GoDaddy pulled the site on April 29th, we were entitled to a refund as we had paid the fees for May, and Liegen has succeeding in getting one. This means that Liegen has the $120 that our generous members donated for the upkeep of the site for May, and can use it for moving to a temp host.
Due to technical reasons, we are unable to move the forum to the cheese server and have to wait until these problems are resolved. After which we will be moving to the cheese server permanently as Pescado has indeed offered us hosting. It has been suggested by him, and we believe this is the best course of action, that we move to a temp host in the mean time while these issues are resolved.
This means that we will be moving to a new temp host while cheese issues continue. Under GoDaddy, we had a dedicated server of 1GB RAM, 1500GB of bandwidth a month and have 40GB traffic a day, so you can understand that we need to ensure that the temp host can handle us, basically. So if anyone would like to suggest a temp host then please do so in the comments here or somewhere where a mod/admin will definitely see it.
We would like to take the time to thank everyone who did donate to the site for May, as, by TSR pulling this fuckery at the end of April, we are able to get a refund and move to a temp host. So you really, really have supported the site and you have our thanks. Otherwise, we would either be looking to move to a temp site and have to raise all the necessary funds, or be down until the cheese server is ready for us. You guys are awesome!
So the end note is this: we have been given a full refund, will be setting ourselves up on a temp host and then moving to the land of cheese. Thank you to everyone for your support over this and spreading the word. Hopefully most of our members and visitors are now aware why we are down and know that we will be coming back as soon as possible.

Date: 2010-05-01 11:44 am (UTC)I wanted to pipe up with a recommendation of: http://www.surpasshosting.com/
We use them for our business (I work for an Advertising/Marketing company - hosting our clients and onselling of space etc) and they've always been fantastic, VERY fast and thorough with their support and communication and are incredibly affordable.
If you contact them FIRST and explain your situation I'm sure they'd be really accommodating.
GOOD LUCK! And I hope this all can be resolved quickly. Its just utterly and completely ridiculous.

Date: 2010-05-01 01:24 pm (UTC)What I honestly don't get is...why would TSR do this? It just doesn't make sense. Surely, they know that GOS is going to come back. If they were trying to "send a message", I think it backfired miserably. :\
Then again, common sense in community relations was never a strong suit over at TSR.

Date: 2010-05-02 06:12 am (UTC)I also know of a free forum host, namely Proboards, though I am unsure of the bandwith/storage capacity.
Good to know GoS will be back soon!
Sincerely,
Misery
Thanks so much for the updates,

Date: 2010-05-04 11:02 am (UTC)You've probably already seen this, but if there's anything you can salvage from TSR's argument in their 'myths' article to use in your defense (particularly the pay-site part with the EA legal quote), see here:
http://www.thesimsresource.com/articles/myths
All of this is quite ironic considering that (supposedly) 'TSR was created with an ethos to "Create & Share"'. I guess that disappeared when they decided to have subscriptions.
This whole thing just confuses me, but it's completely outrageous. I hope it's all sorted out soon, GOS is one of the best content sites there is, if not the best. You all do a really great job.
