News regarding GoS

The majority of you have realised that Garden of Shadows is down, and if you visit the site regularly then you will have noticed the thread regarding the complaint that the host received from TSR.

TSR sent a complaint email to GoDaddy, GoS’ and DP’s host, claiming that we were redistributing copyrighted content. Not only do TSR have no legal claim over sims CC but the content was in Media Fire links not on our server. We have never hosted this content on our server and as such Liegen made a counter claim.

GoDaddy has wrongly placed the forum and site offline for 10-14 business days (2-3 weeks) because of TSR’s accusation. Note that TSR have barely any ground to stand on in such an accusation so the only reason GoS is currently down is because GoDaddy are a shoddy host and have a reputation for rolling over when they receive any legal notice.

So are we going to wait 3 weeks and go back to a rubbish host? Of course not.

We are currently organising moving to a new server as soon as possible and we will keep you all updated when we have more news.

This is being cross posted at my private DW journal, LJ and Nocturnal, to attempt to inform as many of you as possible. jenfold also has an entry about this and may update that to include any news when we have it.

Although I just posted in pinketamine's journal, thank you for this! It was honestly worrying when it wouldn't load for me, and then downforeveryone said Digital Perversion was down also. This is extremely helpful news, hopefully things get sorted soon and we are back up on a server that doesn't roll over as soon as someone even shakes their fist at them. Thanks again!

Pescado has a backup of the site from Saturday and has offered cheese server hosting, so all we do now is wait for Liegen to get online and respond to that (:

So there will be a large update on what we are doing by this evening.

I appreciate the update...I was worried this morning that the TSR bullshit was the cause of this. Glad to hear it's being dealt with and there's a recent backup. It would really suck to lose so much based on a shitty accusation that has no merit.

GoDaddy is a crappy webhost as it is (I used them for a few years and was underwhelmed); even moreso that they'd nuke a site just like that.

Good luck with moving the site to another server. It's sad that something that is supposed to be fun (Sims) is probably causing you, Liegen and all the other mods and admins a lot of stress right now. :(

Thank you for the update Nymphy! I was worried when I wasn't able to get the site to load. Thank you also to all of you guys that are working so hard to get the site back up right now. I don't know what I'd do on the computer without a GOS to spend hours on! It's great that Pescado has such a recent backup, it would suck to lose a ton of content.

Ugh, I can't believe this. Even though I haven't been a long time member and haven't formed a lot of the closeness that many of the members have formed with one another, its still really messed up to me that something would happen like this. I love GOS, even though I can be a "noob" and kind of a sore thumb though the threads. I hope everything gets sorted out soon.

It is unfortunately normal procedure for web hosts to suspend or shut down a website at a hint of legal trouble. This is to cover their own butts whether or not the claims are true, probably because they don't have time or resources to verify claims.

I heartily approve of your moving shop and not giving in to the inconvenience this has caused. It IS only an inconvenience, though an annoying one.

TSR should burn in hell. Tell them I said that too. After everyone hears what they did, even people who never heard of the site, nobody will want to go on TSR. Well, at least the smart people. haha. They have no right. Also I might add...GoDaddy sucks..why eles would they have to use smexy woman in comercials to lore everyone in the there website unlike other websites who don't even need a comercial and they are popular. Just saying. Anyway.

I'm not even shocked of what those greedy people in TSR are capable of doing.
Looks like Thomas is on a Crusade, trying to hunt down all sites/servers/peoples that donates their own purchase items so he can profit tons of money.
It's totally unfair and revolting, but at least we're still on the run against him and his s*** site. Disgusting...
